Track Details

Portland International Raceway (PIR) has a unique origin story. The 1.967-mile, 12-turn road course is built on the site of Vanport, a city that was completely destroyed by a flood in 1948. The first races were held in 1961 on the remaining city streets. The track is almost completely flat and is known for its challenging Festival Curves chicane at the end of the front straight. PIR has a rich history of hosting major events, including IndyCar, IMSA, Trans-Am, and NASCAR races. It is famous for producing two of the closest finishes in Indy car history, including a 1986 race where Mario Andretti beat his son Michael by just 0.070 seconds. Today, it hosts the IndyCar Series' Grand Prix of Portland and a NASCAR Xfinity Series race.
