Opened in 1972 as the Circuito Internazionale Santa Monica, this facility is located in Misano Adriatico on the Adriatic coast of Italy. The 4.226 km (2.626-mile) circuit has undergone several reconfigurations, with the most significant in 2007 when the direction of the track was reversed to run clockwise. It is a fast and technical circuit that hosts major international events, most notably the San Marino and Rimini Riviera motorcycle Grand Prix, a key stop on the MotoGP calendar. In 2012, the circuit was renamed in memory of local MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli, who tragically died in 2011. The track is a cornerstone of Italy's "Motor Valley" and is a favorite among riders and fans for its passionate atmosphere.
