Alton, Virginia, USA (View on Map)
Virginia International Raceway (VIR) is a historic 3.27-mile road course located in Alton, Virginia. Opened in 1957, it was one of America's first permanent road racing circuits. The track is famous for its high-speed, flowing layout that includes dramatic elevation changes, most notably the "Oak Tree Turn" (though the tree itself fell in 2013) and the challenging "Climbing Esses." After closing in 1974, the track lay dormant for 25 years before being resurrected and reopened in 2000 as America's first "motorsport resort," combining a world-class racetrack with lodging, dining, and other amenities. Today, VIR is a premier venue for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and hosts numerous other professional and club racing events.
