Track Details

The Mount Washington Auto Road is not a traditional circuit but the site of one of North America's oldest and most challenging motorsport events, the Mount Washington Hillclimb Auto Race. First opened as a carriage road in 1861, the 7.6-mile road climbs 4,618 feet to the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire, the highest peak in the northeastern United States. The road is incredibly steep, with an average grade of 12%, and transitions from pavement to a graded dirt and gravel surface. The "Climb to the Clouds" was first held in 1904 and is a grueling test of driver skill and car performance against the mountain's unpredictable and often severe weather. The event runs intermittently, but its history and extreme challenge give it a legendary status in motorsport.
