North Wilkesboro Speedway is one of NASCAR's foundational tracks, a historic venue that has been miraculously resurrected. Opened in 1947 as a 0.625-mile dirt track, it hosted the final race of NASCAR's inaugural 1949 season and was paved in 1957. The track is famous for its unique layout, which features a downhill front stretch and an uphill backstretch. After hosting NASCAR Cup Series races until 1996, the track fell into disrepair and sat dormant for over two decades. Following a grassroots revival movement and investment from Speedway Motorsports, the track was restored and hosted local racing in 2022. Its incredible comeback was capped in 2023 when it returned to the NASCAR national stage as the host of the prestigious NASCAR All-Star Race, blending its rich history with a modern fan experience.
