Imola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy (View on Map)
Commonly known as Imola, the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari is a legendary and deeply historic circuit located near Bologna, Italy. Inaugurated in 1953, this anti-clockwise track is carved into the rolling hillsides, creating a fast, flowing, and technically demanding layout that has challenged the world's greatest drivers for decades. Originally a high-speed blast through the park with minimal chicanes, its character has been profoundly shaped by safety modifications, most notably following the tragic 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Corners like Tamburello and Villeneuve were re-profiled into chicanes, and the track now features a challenging mix of fast sweeps like Piratella, heavy braking zones at Tosa and Rivazza, and the tricky Acque Minerali complex. Imola hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 and then became the home of the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006, returning to the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 as the host of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Its old-school character, with minimal runoff and punishing gravel traps, makes it a revered test of driver skill.
