Daytona International Speedway is arguably the most famous racetrack in the United States. Opened in 1959 by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., it was built to replace the legendary Daytona Beach Road Course. The 2.5-mile high-banked tri-oval was a revolutionary design, with its 31-degree banking allowing for incredible speeds and creating the phenomenon of 'drafting.' The speedway is home to the Daytona 500, NASCAR's most prestigious race, often called 'The Great American Race'. The facility is a massive 500-acre motorsports complex that also includes a 3.56-mile sports car course, which hosts the grueling Rolex 24 at Daytona, one of the world's premier endurance races. Known as the 'World Center of Racing,' Daytona's history is intertwined with the history of NASCAR itself, and a victory there is a career-defining achievement.
