Five Flags Speedway is a high-banked, half-mile paved oval in Pensacola, Florida, that opened in 1953. Its name is a nod to Pensacola's nickname, "The City of Five Flags." The track is one of the most revered short tracks in America, primarily due to its hosting of the annual Snowball Derby each December. First run in 1968, the Snowball Derby has grown into the most prestigious Super Late Model race in the country, attracting top drivers from NASCAR and across the short track world who compete for the coveted Tom Dawson trophy. The track's abrasive surface and nearly circular configuration, with 15-degree banking, create a significant challenge that rewards tire management and driver skill.
