Opened in 1997, Auto Club Speedway was a formidable 2-mile, low-banked, D-shaped superspeedway located in Fontana, California. Built on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, the facility was a cornerstone of NASCAR's West Coast presence for over two decades, filling a void left by the closures of the legendary Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track's wide surface and multiple racing grooves, combined with aged asphalt that increased tire wear, produced some of the most thrilling, multi-lane racing on the NASCAR calendar. Its long straights and sweeping, 14-degree banked corners allowed cars to reach incredible speeds, demanding both courage from the drivers and strategic ingenuity from the crew chiefs. The speedway hosted its final race on the 2-mile oval in February 2023, with plans announced to redevelop the site into a modern, short-track facility. Over its 26-year history, it hosted NASCAR, IndyCar, and sports car events, with legends like Jimmie Johnson becoming the track's most frequent winner.
