Autódromo José Carlos Pace

Better known by its original name, Interlagos, the Autódromo José Carlos Pace is a legendary circuit located in São Paulo, Brazil. Opened in 1940, the track's name, meaning 'between the lakes,' refers to its location between two large reservoirs. The circuit is renowned for its challenging, counter-clockwise layout, significant elevation changes, and often unpredictable weather, which combine to produce dramatic and memorable races. The current 4.309 km (2.677-mile) configuration features a long, uphill main straight leading into the iconic 'Senna S' complex, a plunging sequence of corners that offers prime overtaking opportunities. The twisty infield section and the final climb back to the start-finish line demand precision and rhythm from the drivers. Interlagos has been the primary home of the Brazilian Grand Prix since 1973 and has famously hosted numerous Formula 1 championship deciders, including the thrilling 2008 finale. In 1977, the track was renamed to honor Brazilian F1 driver José Carlos Pace, who had died in a plane crash that year.
