Francorchamps, Liège, Belgium (View on Map)
Nestled in the Ardennes forest of Belgium, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and beloved racetracks in the world. Its history began in 1921, with a fearsome 15 km circuit laid out on public roads. The modern 7.004 km (4.352-mile) track, reconfigured in 1979 for safety, retains much of the original's character. It is defined by its long, sweeping, high-speed corners, dramatic elevation changes, and notoriously unpredictable weather. The circuit's signature sequence, the Eau Rouge and Raidillon complex, is a breathtaking uphill charge that has become one of the most iconic pieces of tarmac in motorsport. Spa has hosted the Belgian Grand Prix since 1925 and is a favorite among drivers for the pure test of skill and bravery it demands. The track's layout serves as a physical timeline of motorsport's ongoing dialogue between the pursuit of speed and the necessity of safety, with its configuration evolving in response to the ever-increasing performance of race cars.
